Building on previous NFTA studies, including Metro’s Alternative Analysis and the Transit Oriented Development Study, we are now focusing on ways to extend Metro Rail beyond University Station. Rail expansion could run along Bailey Road to Eggert Road, or along Kenmore Avenue and Niagara Falls Boulevard. The new tracks could lead to the interchange of the I-990 and Audubon Parkway. This decision is up next and will be made soon.
At the same time, the NFTA is completing an environmental review. This part of the process complies with both the National Environmental Policy Act and the New York State Environmental Quality Act. It is also a good idea for the whole community. Metro Rail is one the most environmentally friendly ways to get around the region. We are committed to keeping - or increasing - that standing.
